MLAI Privacy Policy

MLAI (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an Australia-based, not-for-profit community. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, where it’s stored, and the choices you have—especially around our community bot, Roo.

By using our services (e.g., joining our Slack, subscribing to our newsletter, attending events, or interacting with Roo), you agree to this Policy.

What we mean by “Personal Information”

Information that identifies you or could reasonably identify you (e.g., name, email, Slack handle). We do not seek to collect sensitive information (e.g., health, political opinions). Please don’t share sensitive info in our channels.

Our current stack (where your data may live)

• Slack (community chat and #intros channel)
• Substack (newsletter + mailing list)
• Knowledge Graph (“KG”) for Roo (structured profile data derived from #intros) hosted on DigitalOcean. Data hosted in Australia where available.
• OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini API (to generate Roo’s replies and match suggestions)
• Operational tools used by the team: Google Workspace/Drive, Notion, Linear

We may change vendors as we improve our stack. Material changes will be reflected here.

What we collect

• From Slack: your display name, username, profile photo, and the content you choose to post in #intros (e.g., skills, interests, projects, links).
